Conveniently located in the southwest section of Houston, Texas, the “Super Neighborhood” of Westbury is an excellent place to buy a home. Westbury is found adjacent to the Meyerland and Fondren Southwest communities, east of Bob White Road, west of the 610 freeway and South Post Oak Road, and north of U.S. Highway 90. The community was originally established in the 1950s when it was known for the Westbury Square shopping center. Designed to resemble an Italian villa the developer had visited in Europe, Westbury Square was considered the Galleria of its time. The shopping venue encompassed unique retails stores, a candle shop, dinner theater, a steak house, and a pizza parlor, among several other retailers and restaurants.
In the mid-1970s the Square began losing business to larger shopping malls. However, remnants of the original shopping destination’s design are visible in a townhome complex along West Belfort and Chimney Rock. Today the community offers prospective homebuyers affordable housing options, and in 2007 the Houston Press named it the city's “Best Hidden Neighborhood.” Similarly, in 2013 it was ranked among the top twenty-five hottest Houston neighborhoods according to the Houstonia Magazine. In recent years it has experienced a rebirth and with that, renewed popularity. The neighborhood encompasses Chimney Rock Park Community Center, Hager Park, and Westbury Park, as well as the Westbury Storefront Station. Schools serving the students in the area include Westbury High, Anderson Elementary, and Park Elementary schools.
Most of the Westbury neighborhood was developed during the 1950s and 1960s, named after Westbury, New York. This post-World War II development was the result of the migration from the big city into the suburbs. Then in 1960, the above mentioned Westbury Square shopping center was constructed. Today Westbury is encompassed by the Brays Oaks district and offers diverse and reasonably priced housing options. Homes for sale in Westbury include a wide variety of single-family homes with various architectural styles, ages, and sizes. There are small, affordable starter homes in Westbury, as well as larger and more luxurious opportunities. Because of the diversity of real estate in Westbury, listing prices fall across a comprehensive range that accommodates most homebuyers' budgets.
